They are over the hill, greying has-beens who are burnt out and frail, rickety and raddled, useless and superfluous. They have served their masters for many years, but now the donkey, the dog, the cat and the rooster are in for it. However, they keep their spirits up and set out together on a journey towards an uncertain future. They can surely find something better than death anywhere.
